San Juan on the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida: a night to experience by the sea
The night of San Juan is one of those dates that marks the real beginning of summer in our area. Every year, on the night of 23 to 24 June, many people head to the coast to have dinner outdoors, walk by the sea, enjoy the atmosphere and share a special evening with family and friends.
On the Costa Blanca and the Costa Cálida, San Juan is celebrated in a very Mediterranean way: beach, good weather, terraces, music, fireworks in some municipalities and that feeling that summer has truly arrived.
San Juan in our area: beach, calm and Mediterranean atmosphere
Beyond the city of Alicante, in areas such as Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Pilar de la Horadada, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and La Manga, San Juan is enjoyed in a more relaxed way, close to the sea.
Here, the plan is usually simpler, but just as special:
Have dinner with friends or family near the beach.
Walk along the seafront promenade.
Enjoy music or activities organised by the local councils.
Watch fireworks where they are scheduled.
Dip your feet in the sea as part of the tradition.
Welcome summer in a calm and family-friendly atmosphere.
In Torrevieja, for example, celebrations have been announced on beaches such as La Mata, El Cura, Los Locos and Los Náufragos, as well as fireworks from the Juan Aparicio seafront promenade for San Juan night 2026.
Alicante and its Hogueras de San Juan
In the city of Alicante, San Juan is celebrated in a big way with the famous Hogueras de San Juan, one of the most important festivals in the Valencian Community. The city fills with artistic monuments, barracas, parades, music and traditional events. According to the official festival website, the Hogueras are officially held from 20 to 24 June.
One of the most anticipated moments is the mascletà in Plaza de los Luceros. During the main days of the Hogueras, the mascletà takes place every day at 2:00 p.m., bringing thousands of people together in the centre of Alicante. It is a very typical experience: noise, gunpowder, excitement and an incredible atmosphere. Alicante Tourism highlights the mascletàs as one of the great symbols of the festival, held at 2:00 p.m. in Plaza de los Luceros.
The festival also ends with the traditional Cremà, when the Hogueras monuments are burned during the night of 24 June. It is one of the most representative moments of the celebration.
Pay attention to the rules in each municipality
Although San Juan is closely associated with bonfires on the beach, each municipality sets its own rules. In some places, bonfires are only allowed in specific areas, while in others it may be forbidden to light fires, bring alcohol, cook on the sand or set off firecrackers.
For example, Santa Pola has limited the San Juan bonfires to designated areas on Levante Beach and Gran Playa, banning fires outside those areas, as well as other activities such as cooking, making embers or setting off firecrackers.
That is why, before organising any plan, it is best to check the official information from the corresponding local council. This way, you can enjoy the night without scares, fines or unnecessary drama.

Tips for enjoying San Juan on the coast
To make the most of the evening, it is worth keeping a few basic recommendations in mind:
Arrive early if you want to park near the beach.
Bring a light jacket, as it can get cooler at night.
Check whether bonfires are allowed on the beach or whether designated areas are available.
Respect the cleanliness of the beach.
Avoid swimming if the sea is rough or there is a red flag.
Always follow the instructions of the Local Police, Civil Protection or lifeguards.
This last point is important. In recent days, serious incidents have been recorded on the southern coast of Alicante due to difficult sea conditions, with easterly winds and dangerous currents.

A way to understand life on the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida
San Juan is not just a festival. It also represents very well the lifestyle that so many people look for when they decide to buy a property in this area: climate, beach, tradition, outdoor living and plans all year round.
Living close to the sea means being able to enjoy moments like this without having to wait for the holidays. A dinner by the beach, a walk at sunset or a special night like San Juan are part of everyday life for those who choose the Costa Blanca South or the Costa Cálida to live, invest or spend long periods of time.
At Munfort, we know this area because we live it every day. If you are thinking about buying a home near the sea, San Juan is just a small example of everything you can enjoy here: good weather, Mediterranean atmosphere and quality of life all year round.
