Patron Saint Festivities of Pilar de la Horadada 2025: History and Main Events

The Patron Saint Festivities of Pilar de la Horadada are the most important event in the local calendar. From 26 September to 19 October 2025, residents and visitors can enjoy more than three weeks of religious, cultural and festive activities that reflect the identity of this Costa Blanca town.

History of the festivities

The celebrations in honour of the Virgin of the Pillar, patron saint of Pilar de la Horadada, date back to the mid-20th century, when the town was still part of Orihuela. After becoming an independent municipality in 1986, the festivities grew in importance, consolidating their role as a symbol of local identity.

A key moment was in 1957, when the first float parade was held. That simple but heartfelt edition became the origin of one of today’s most anticipated events, now officially recognised as being of local tourist interest.

The procession of the Virgin of the Pillar and the offering of flowers remain the most representative religious and traditional events, while the addition of concerts, sports activities and fairs has made the celebrations more diverse and appealing to a wide audience.

Main events in 2025

Among the many activities planned for this year, some highlights include:

  • Election and coronation of the Queen and Fiesta Queen – the opening ceremony that marks the start of the celebrations.
  • Offering of flowers – hundreds of locals and families accompany the Virgin with bouquets, creating an impressive natural mural at the church.
  • Procession of the Virgin of the Pillar – the patron saint is carried through the streets in a solemn and well-attended event.
  • Float and peña parade & closing of the festivities – creativity, colour and music fill the town in the most popular event, officially declared of tourist interest.
